Watching (waiting)

Category: Sense of Place

The old men of Sarajevo wile the days away playing chess on a giant outdoor chessboard in one of the city's central plazas. The festivities become almost that of a spectator sport as the two players draw crowds of locals, onlookers and a herd of kids who attempt to move the life-size game pieces. Bosnia's unemployment has grown exponentially since the end of the war. The city's men, old and young, wait and watch for work.

Location: Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina
