A Walk on the Wild Side

While walking in Mana Pools National Park, we were fortunate to have encountered this pride of 11 lions that were resting in the coolness of the shade of a mahogany tree. They were lolling and grooming and fat from their night's feeding. A herd of buffalo passed in the distance, but a few veered off and walked directly past the pride. This image is of the ensuing chaos that resulted. I remember dust, blood, the cries of the lion cubs as they hid from the herd, and the roars of the adult lions as they defended their prey. We eventually had to climb a tree to escape the action. Awesome.

Location: Mana Pools, Zimbabwe
