Stargazing at Big Creek Baldy Lookout

Category: Sense of Place

One of the many lookout towers in Montana, Big Creek Baldy Lookout sits atop its namesake mountain at an elevation of 5,780 feet in the Kootenai National Forest. It has been used as an observation point for spotting forest fires for over 60 years. We stayed there for one night only whilst I was in Montana for the first time. Although forest fires meant our views were a little hazy by day, nightfall more than made up for it when the stars came out. It was great fun to wrap up and bring our cameras down to the forest floor to try and get a shot which captured the serenity of our candlelit tower.

Location: Kootenai National Forest, Montana, USA
