Cold night in the desert

Category: Travel Portraits

Photo and caption by Anna Kern

San Pedro de Atacama lies at 2,400 metres in the middle of the Atacama desert in Chile where nighttime temperature can drop below zero celsius even during the hot summer days. This old lady in ironed shirt, one of the few thousand of inhabitants, carried brushwood on her way home on the dusty street to make fire for the cold night. They say the high quantities of quartz and copper in the area gives people positive energy.

Location: San Pedro de Atacama, Chile
