Stilt fisherman at Midigama, South Coast of Sri Lanka, Asia

Category: Travel Portraits

Photo and caption by Matthew Williams-Ellis

Stilt fisherman fishing among the waves at dawn. Every morning, half an hour before dawn the stilt fishermen at Midigama wade out through the crashing waves. Perched on top of their wooden stilts, they pluck out the small fish one by one. This photo was taken about half an hour before dawn, as the first fishermen were heading out. I used a 30 second exposure to blur the waves as they crashed around the fisherman.

Location: Midigama, South Coast of Sri Lanka
