Guards on a Row Boat

Category: Sense of Place

The Forest Guards in Kaziranga are one of the most dedicated people in India. They have brought the Indian Rhino back from jaws of extinction and in turn brought back a pristine place back to life. Today the Kaziranga boasts of not only the Rhino but of the Indian Big cat the tiger as well. This was possible because of the relentless work of these guards. As seen here they go on their sunset patrol along the Brahmaputra on nothing more than a patrol boat and a non-automatic rifle against the poachers. At least one guard is killed every month by poachers.

Location: Kaziranga, Assam, India
