She Weeps

Category: Sense of Place

Photo and caption by Barbara Stewart

Is the figure overwhelmed by the beauty of Antarctica or in agony over rapid changes in the climate? Or both? I'd set down my camera, just trying to absorb the scenes through my cabin window when this sculpture of time and ice came into view. Symbol? Siren? Self portrait?

Location: Weddell Sea, Antarctica, just north of the fast ice barrier, Dec 2011.
