Dancing Monks

Category: Sense of Place

Photo and caption by Kathryn Simms

Once a summer home for the king, the Kuenga Rabten Palace, is now a school for young monks. We were lucky to catch them practicing the ceremonial mask dances which they will eventually perform as adults in Bhutan's many festivals. Even our tour guide had not seen this before. For us, this photograph of the dancing monks embodies the untouched beauty of Bhutan.

Location: Trongsa, Bhutan
