St. John's Church Ceiling: Edinburgh, Scotland, 2011

Category: Sense of Place

The charming Scottish city of Edinburgh has many large, stately cathedrals, including St. John's Scottish Episcopal Church. The design of the ceiling inside the main sanctuary of St. John's Church is one of the most spellbinding of any in the city. The complex, orderly, geometric designs seemed to me to vibrate visually; referencing the rational order and boundless energy of a higher spiritual plane of existence. This is a single frame, wide-angle photo taken with a 17 - 35mm Nikkor zoom lens set on 17mm, on a Nikon D700 camera, hand-held looking straight up from the center of the sanctuary.

Location: Edinburgh, Scotland
