The Great Barrier Reef

The Great Barrier Reef is made up of a mesmerizing maze of individual reefs, covering an area of 133,000 square miles, almost the size of Germany. I took this photo from a helicopter as we were flying in for a landing. The boats provided a perfect frame of reference for capturing the vast expanse. They are stationed here as diving platforms, where the staff also arrives by helicopter. We swam in the river of abyss dividing the reef and witnessed spectacular sights below and above the surface. It is no wonder to me that this is one of The Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
