This picture was taken in the Hoysaleshwara temple ,Halebidu. It depicts a saint going to perform a ritual during a marriage ceremony.Halebidu was the 12th century capital of the hoysalas.Soap stone or Chloritic Schist was used for the construction of these temples. However a no of sculptures in the temple were destructed by invaders. So the temple is incomplete. The Hoysaleswara temple, dating back to 1121 is astounding for its wealth of sculptural details. The walls of the temple are covered with an endless variety of depictions from Hindu mythology, animals, birds & Shilabalikas or dancing figures.
Location: Halebidu , Hassan District , Karnataka , India
