Shepherd

Photo and caption by Tasha Komery

I loved this moment. We were driving along in what seemed like the middle of nowhere, on our way back to the coast, from Plitvice National Park, when I spotted this man with his sheep. His face had such character - the blue eyes, the lines - and I had to get his photo. I asked my travel partner to turn around. He indulged me and did as I asked. Once we were in front of him, I wondered what I would say to him, how I would ask him for his photo. We didn't speak the same language, but I gestured to my camera and bowed in respect. He smiled and then posed in front of his sheep. He was perfect.
