A Mourning Mother
Category: Spontaneous Moments

A few days ago, I had the rare opportunity to encounter an intimate moment shared between a mother and her child. Desperately swimming up and down a Florida canal, a mother dolphin was in the midst of resuscitating her dying newborn. Much to my dismay the baby dolphin did not make it. The mother went on to mourn her baby's death for the next few hours, pushing it back and forth on the tip of her nose. I sat and captured that chilling moment feeling both the dolphins loss and desperation. Here is a shot I captured of the Mother throwing the dolphin corpse in the air.
