Timeless Labor
Category: Travel Portraits

Standing on the banks of a river in the city of Hoi An, in central Viet Nam, I observed what seemed to be a timeless scene. This woman had moved up and down the river, in her clothes, for hours; stopping to fish clams from the water, and throw them in her basket, or to rest briefly, and catch her breath. It seemed to me as I watched, that this exact labor had taken place, in that place, for centuries, if not millennia.
Location: Hoi An, Viet Nam
