School hallway, Pripyat, Ukraine
Category: Sense of Place
Photo and caption by Chris Miller
I toured the Chernobyl exclusion zone, including the ghost town of Pripyat, on June 22, 2011. It was the last tour available to the public. Knowing Russian, I was able to make out the names of children scrawled in discarded grade books inside an abandoned school. This photo shows a dilapidated hallway of that school and a door that reads "Учительская," meaning teachers' lounge. (Yashica T3, 35mm Kodak Professional B&W 400)
