Crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge
Category: Spontaneous Moments
Photo and caption by Mark Nelson
This photo captures a small, touching moment. The contrast of the two people and the tie to their shirts is unique in and of itself, but their's more to this story. I was traveling with my church youth group in August, 2010 as we retraced the steps of the Civil Rights Movement. This photo was taken crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge, the site of "Bloody Sunday." The entire group was silent as we crossed the bridge. The emotion was palpable. I was walking alone toward the back of the group and saw these two holding hands. If only this could have happened 45 years earlier.
