Rice Paddy

Category: Travel Portraits

Photo and caption by Kevin O'Connell

In contrast to the densely crowded city of Hanoi, this scene several hours north of the city, speaks of the ancient ritual of rice farming, and it's beauty. What is this person thinking about? Just rest from her labor? Is she the owner of the land, or just a worker? Does she love looking out over the valley, or is it just daily drudgery? It is difficult now to separate ancient Asia, from modern Asia. These scenes are one of the last vestiges of the timeless way.

Location: Mai Chau Valley, Viet Nam
