Quiet Moment in the African Sunset
Category: Sense of Place
Photo and caption by Pamela Gouws
This resident bull elephant lived at his waterhole but his family would come and visit him once a day. His family of cows and calves in a herd of about 16 would some visit him and drink and play in the waterhole during the heat of the day. The young bulls would come and put their trunks on the bull in a ritual greeting and then hang around him and drink. Here the family has just left off into the sunset and the bull elephant sits resting his trunk on his tusk.
Location: Etosha Game Reserve, Okaukeujo, Namibia
