The Color of Hot Springs
Category: Sense of Place
Photo and caption by Dawn Wilson
Yellowstone National Park contains more thermal features than any other area in the world. Brightly colored bacteria thrive in the hot waters of the features, including geysers, hot springs, mudpots and fumaroles, creating showy collages of orange, yellow and gold along the edges of the thermal features. This macro photograph demonstrates the detail in these thriving communities along the edges of the hot water at Biscuit Basin in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming.
