Sacred Mountains, Holy Lakes
Category: Sense of Place

The Kamikochi National Park is located in the Japanese Alps, (north of Nagoya, north west of Tokyo) and is very popular among tourists. However, on a rainy day, only few tourist come here and even fewer venture into this more remote lake area of the Myojin Pond. Passing a Hotaka Shrine you arrive at the pond. The sound of the rain on the lake, bamboo along the lakeside and Mt. Myojindake shrouded in a mysterious fog complete the picture of a sacred place. I barely dared to breathe. It is one of the most calm, beautiful and holy places I have seen so far...
Location: The Myojin Pond in the Kamikochi National Park, Japan.
