The tide had descended with the sun, which dipped in the sky and coaxed surreal images from reflective pools in the sea floor, now bare. Locals traversed from the mainland to their island home in a well-practiced web of paths where the water had once been. A rhythmic beat soared on the wind, softly at first and gaining force as two young women intersected our path. They whispered to each other and turned to face us. Balancing their water buckets on their heads, they laughed joyfully and began to dance enthusiastically to the tune from their handheld radio
