Cormorant Fishing
Category: Travel Portraits
Photo and caption by Danielle Mayall
I took this photograph while on a NatGeo expedition in China. These fishermen tie a snare near the base of the bird's throat. This prevents the birds from swallowing larger fish, which are held in their throat, and then brought back. It was awesome to see such a rare method of fishing in practice.
Location: Yangshuo, Guilin Province, China
