Each day during our two week stay in Guangzhou, China these boatsmen would travel up and down the Pearl River. Using long, cane poles they would remove what appeared to be a native water plant from the river, presumably a hazard to navigation. And each day, more of the plant would float down. These men worked tirelessly and quietly to keep the port city working.
