Buddhist Spirit and Mind embodies a Monk and his Tiger
Category: Spontaneous Moments
Photo and caption by Lauren Smith
Abbot Chan created a Buddhist temple and wildlife sanctuary for orphaned and endangered animals now called Tiger Temple. The temple walls houses a variety of animals from wild boars, peacocks, livestock and tigers. Animals are allowed to roam free and human and the animal kingdom co-exist peacefully. I was skeptic as to why these tigers were so docile, but in understanding the abbot, the religion, and experiencing the temple, I began to understand the power of Buddhist thought. This photo captures the strong mutual respect and trust between the monk and his tiger and the essence of the temple.
