Ta Prohm
Category: Sense of Place
Photo and caption by Kevin O'Connell
While wandering the ancient Khmer ruins of Angkor, this scene of embedded Banyon roots appeared repeatedly, at the area called Ta Prohm. This was a series of temples built by King Jayavarman VII, in honor of his mother. The French archaeologists who excavated here, left the Banyon trees in place, to give visitors the feeling of what they originally found. As elsewhere in Angkor, the colors, especially a rich cyan patina, give the ruins the feel of a Hollywood set.
Location: Ancient Angkor, Cambodia
