Prayer on the River Ganges
Category: Travel Portraits
Photo and caption by Greg Slick
I took this photograph at sunrise on the River Ganges in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh India. Every morning at dawn, hundreds of Hindus stand in the water on the Ghats facing the rising sun praying, bathing and making offerings. The subjects were facing the sun opposite of the Ghats, so the only way I could get this portrait was to get in the water which is considered to be the most polluted river in the world.
Location: Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh India
