Market Day
Category: Sense of Place
Photo and caption by Sarah Jackson
A woman strolls through the busy Tuesday market in Oloolaimutia, a remote outpost for the Maasai people in southwestern Kenya. On a late afternoon, the weekly market is teeming with life. People from faraway villages look forward all week to the chance to socialize, sell their wares, shop, see and be seen. Amid the chaos, schoolchildren run, teenagers gossip, cows and goats steal a veggie or two. Through it all, this woman shops with a keen eye and sassy swagger that could be at home on the streets of New York City.
Location: Oloolaimutia, Kenya
