Bhutanese School for the Deaf

Category: Travel Portraits

Photo and caption by Stephen Duncan

On the last day of our trip to Bhutan we visited a school for the deaf. These children were so happy and eager to learn and the teachers were so focused and dedicated. This was an incredibly happy, positive place. Our hotel had purchased numerous cameras for the students on our behalf. We showed them how to load film into the cameras; they took photos of us while we took photos of them. It was a wonderful experience. The girl in this photo had just been smiling but pulled this momentary pensive look -- both beautiful and haunting.

Location: Drukgyel in Paro, Bhutan
