A pair of young Maasai boys huddle together for warmth at daybreak on the chilly high plains of southern Kenya. Thin blankets and worn shoes made from old tires are scant protection from relentless wind. These boys are greeting a team of health workers. They proudly show off their home, holding up their favorite pets for the visitors to admire. Soon they will leave for the day to search through lion country for ever-shrinking pasture with their goat herds, a responsibility they have shouldered since they were tiny children.

Location: Losho, Kenya
