- I've lived on each coast of the United States and in various other parts of the country. One thing Kansas has that trumps all others, is the amazing storms that roll over the plains. This was one of those spectacular light shows that would put any 4th of July display to shame. With this photo I wanted to capture lightning in a way I hadn't seen it done before.

- The photo was taken in Yamal region, Russia. The temperature in December was -30 degrees bellow 0. In spite of bad weather I went to take pictures. In 20 kilometres from the city of Salekhard, not far from the road where I was driving, I saw the camp of reindeer breeders. Adults were preparing to the long way. And children helped their parents. Children enjoyed taking pictures. A snow-storm increased. In this session I was really cold, and children were perfectly all right. But it was really cold this day

- This is why the Galápagos is so special. Since most of the islands’ land area was declared a national park in 1959, these animals have been constantly protected and respected. With human impact being so minimal for so long, species like this beautiful sea lion have no cause to be fearful of our presence. I cannot describe the feeling of being observed by these animals as peacefully as we observed them in their natural habitat. It is an experience I will cherish forever.

- During a winter trip to the Pacific Coast of Olympic National Park I found this starfish clinging to a rock as the waves swirled around it. I used a tripod and a long exposure just after sunset to capture the movement of the water around the starfish. [Photographer's Note: the starfish was not touched, moved, harmed etc., during the shoot]

- I was on my way to shoot some late night photos of the Jefferson Memorial when a lightning storm unexpectedly appeared across the sky. I made my way to the edge of the basin and set my camera to a 15 second shutter speed, shooting continuously until I got the photo that I was looking for. The color balance of this photo is completely natural.
