- On a recent photo trip to Alaska's McNeil River, I spent four days observing and photographing Brown Bears. The bears routine became pretty obvious - they'd fish for a while until their bellies were full, then they'd wander off into the grass for a little nap. This ole gal never quite got that far - after snaring this salmon, she wandered into a shallow pool at the side of the river, cradled the fish under her arm, and promptly nodded off. It was really comical to see her just sitting there sound asleep.

- A Chinese construction worker covered in snow and ice tries to keep his balance high above ground while planting metal poles in the heavy snow pack. The worker was laying down the framework upon which large blocks of ice will be pieced together to form huge cities of ice. Ice and snow theme parks are constructed annually each winter for the Snow and Ice Festival held in Harbin, China,

- I found this old VW van on a public street in Valpairiso, Chile. I was struck buy how it appeared disguised or camouflaged against the building. Who knows if it was intentional or the work of disenfranchised street artists.

- Waving Wheat under Supercell Thunderstorm
- field_caption
- A supercell thunderstorm roars over wheat fields near Oshkosh, Nebraska on June 16, 2011. The photo was captured after a long storm season that started in April. I wanted one photograph from the 2011 storm season that displayed the incredible beauty and power of a Great Plains supercell. I believe I captured that moment with this photograph by allowing the shutter to stay open for 10 seconds. The effect of the inflow winds on the wheat field and movement, along with the lightning and cloud structure tell the story I was hoping to capture. Canon 5D Mark II, 25mm focal length, F/22.

- Spring trekking in the Manaslu region, I awoke to find snow had blanketed the area. Looking up the valley toward Manaslu, I breathed deeply and let myself feel surrounded by the muted quiet of the mountain snowfall. Knowing the porters had cleared the snow off my tent in the night, I put my trust in our guide to decide when to proceed higher.

- This little anemonefish lives in a very special anemone with small red dots at the end. It's very rare and hard to find but luckily the good guides of Papua New Guinea know where to find it. I was spending about 30 mins with this fish until he finally opened his mouth and kind of yawned.

- My 34th floor balcony perch 34 floors up looking East over Lake Michigan on Chicago's north side is the best sky box for storm watching! This one was about as dramatic as it could get, with multi-layered steel blue and dark gray cloud merging wipped into constantly changing shapes and merging with the lake.
