- In October, 2010, while en route to Amboseli National Park in Kenya, our car broke down. While my husband sorted out a makeshift solution to our broken transmission hose, my daughters and I enjoyed a few hours in the car looking at birds and reading some good books. About one hour into our unexpected sojourn, two Maasai men came walking up the road. The red dirt of Kenya was piled up to make a barrier on the road, as construction was underway, and watching the two men walk slowly through the countryside seemed to capture the essence of rural Kenya to me.

- As the sun sets behind an iconic London cityscape, three individuals remain focused on their personal activities - one young lady passes by ignoring the camera, one woman reflects on the scene and one man reads his book. Reflective light illuminates this man reading - a building behind the photographer contains gold-sheeted windows - a brilliant surface for adding a touch of warm light to the subject.

- This photo was taken from a hot air balloon during the sunrise over the Teotihuacan ruins outside of Mexico City. There was a festival going on below us and they were shooting off little fireworks that created a smoky haze that added a beautiful, mystical element to the photo. I love the contrast between the old ruins and the relatively newer form of human civilization (the balloons), giving this a rather extra-terrestrial feel.

- Silent witnesses in Berlin
- field_caption
- With its wide, open spaces, “holes” in the urban fabric that have yet to be filled after its rapid reconstruction, Berlin still seems to be an incomplete city. Symbols of memories, statues, which should be integrated with the city’s bold, modern architecture and cosmopolitan spirit, at times appear to be emerging into the open space like isolated figures: silent witnesses with nobody to tell their story to.

- A young girl walks on a wire 6 feet above an on-looking crowd. As she balances herself expertly on the wire, she sways vigorously from side to side to show off her acrobatic skills. Caught on a cold winter morning in front of Jaisalmer Fort, India, a tourist attraction where traders and performers gather to ply their trade.

- This leopard was spotted very early one morning on a game drive. The shot was difficult because of the high grass, morning mist, lack of sufficient light and the animal moving steadily through the bush.

- Golden Temple (Hiranya Varna Mahaa Vihar) is one of the most sacred place of Buddhist in Nepal. In that temple, a strictly picked child is served and regarded as a small living Buddha. I was lucky to catch this moment when he was in the daily ceremony of serving the Buddha.

- During my trip to Milford Sound on the South Island of New Zealand, the boat tour took us to many waterfalls in the sound, but this one stood out the most. The water was crashing down with such force that is sprayed across the surface upon contact. The tour guide encouraged all of the women on the boat to get on the helm of the boat so that they could feel the spray. He claimed that if the splash sprayed onto the face of any female, they would not develop wrinkles. But this only worked for females. That is how this photograph earned its title.

- Burano, a small island within the Venetian Lagoon explodes with a cornucopia of color from building to building. Each pastel home embodies the spirit of the people who live there - cheerful, warm and always colorful. The town is filled with the signs of a welcoming and open community; potted plants on windowsills, dirtied shoes left outside and laundry strewn from every window. This bedroom community receives thousands of tourists each year from the Venice area to marvel in the quiet, colorful splendor that is this small Italian island town.
