Yosemite National Park

I was having a great afternoon at Yosemite Valley. The light was gorgeous, and it was just for a few minutes that the entire sky turned dark. Anyway, I'm glad I had a chance to capture the beauty of this place.

Photographing the pier and surfers in Huntington Beach, California, one weekend morning, I took a break and sat under the pier. Along comes this surfer, who stood and watched the waves for a few minutes. I snapped a few pictures as he contemplated.

While exploring the iconic Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, my son jumped into the frame when I was looking for my next shot. The result looks more like he's in a freefall, which gave him a good, long laugh.

Elephant Seals
Photograph by Larissa Bush, My Shot
I took this picture while on my trip to California, along the Pacific Coast Highway. There were elephant seals sunning themselves along the beach close to the Hearst Castle turnoff. I took this picture without even realizing that one of the babies was staring at me. It was a great surprise though.

Shot taken in Pismo Beach, California, USA. The Pismo Beach Pier is 1,300 feet long. There are no restaurants or attractions on the pier. It's all about fishing, surfer-watching, and the view. There are several benches throughout the pier and always a lot of pigeons and seagulls around.

Griffith Park Observatory
Photograph by Ryan Steele, My Shot
I went up to Griffith Park Observatory one evening to shoot the sunset over Los Angeles and was blown away by the amount of smog that was blanketing the city. There are a bunch of these coin-op telescopes all around the observatory, and this one was perfectly positioned to catch the last rays of the setting sun before the darkness set in. In the background, the skyscrapers of West L.A. can barely be seen poking through the thick layer of smog while the sunset paints the sky. Three-shot HDR, Nikon D7000.

Dogs, Crissy Field
Photograph by Fawn Pierre, My Shot
Crissy Field is one of the Golden Gate National Recreation Areas. The GGNRA took over this land from the city of San Francisco with the agreement that its original uses would be preserved. They are breaking that promise to us and taking away the ability for us to have our dogs with us. If they get their way, soon a moment like this will not be possible!
