The Alamo
Photograph by Raymond Choo, My Shot
Taken just before sunrise to avoid crowds at the Alamo. The blue color of the twilight sky provides good contrast to the illuminated Alamo building. A light breeze provided some nice movement to the Texas state flag.

Windmills
Photograph by Terry Cullender, My Shot
As I left Forestburg one evening and passed through Montague going south, the sun was setting behind a ranch museum, and I quickly snapped two shots with my wife's digital camera before the light changed. A Texas-ranch-country shot.

Congress Avenue Bridge
Photograph by Chad Fife, My Shot
One of the most amazing sights in Austin takes place every evening from March to early November, when 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats emerge from their roosts under the Congress Avenue Bridge. This photo was taken with a point-and-shoot camera off of a dock on Lady Bird Lake at sunset. What the photo doesn't capture is the added touch of a saxophone player in the background.

South Padre Island
Photograph by Chase Fountain, My Shot
The endangered Kemp's ridley sea turtle (Lepidochelys kempii) is found in the coastal waters and bays of the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean. Each summer, from April to August, Sea Turtle, Inc., located on South Padre Island, patrols the beaches for nesting Kemp's ridley turtles. The eggs are incubated in a corral, and the hatchlings are then released back into the Gulf of Mexico.

Enchanted Rock State Natural Area
Photograph by Roy Niswanger, My Shot
Taken at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area in central Texas. This is a 20-second exposure at f/2.8 and ISO 1600. The moon was rising behind me from the east as I faced the northwest. The sky was beautiful! This was during my son's Boy Scout climbing merit badge weekend.

Wildfire
Photograph by Frank Cianciolo, My Shot
On the night of April 17, 2011, the waxing gibbous moon provides illumination of a terrifyingly beautiful scene as wildfires, backfires, and burn-off fires nearly surround the dome of the University of Texas McDonald Observatory's Hobby-Eberly Telescope. The bright line of fire above the dome is a line of wildfire about to meet a backfire set to stop its advance. Fires to the left and in the valley to the right were burn-off fires set to starve the wildfire of fuel for further advance.

Houston
Photograph by Ronnie Bennett, My Shot
This is a photograph of downtown Houston, Texas, with the Sabine Street Bridge crossing over the famous Buffalo Bayou. I find myself looking at this image and wondering what it must have been like to float up this bayou before all this was here and if the pioneers of this great city are able to see what I see now. Who knows, maybe there are a few of them sitting on that empty bench below, admiring the same view as me.

Thunderstorm
Photograph by Matthew Spaulding, My Shot
A thunderstorm passes across a Texas landscape during a summer evening. This photo was shot during a cross-country road trip from Maryland to California. Watching lightning strike on the horizon was a highlight of the drive through Texas, and when we came across a long line of power cables, I knew it was time to take a break from driving and set up the camera.

Rower
Photograph by Adam Souter, My Shot
During my recent trip to Austin, Texas, I saw that rowing and kayaking are a huge way of life. Living in Sydney next to the ocean my whole life, water sports such as bodyboarding have been a huge influence in my life. Seeing people still connected to water activities even in Texas is really great. I took this shot at sunrise and instantly knew it was great.
